THE GREEDY ROOSTER

Local history and culture
4/5
1 review

The Coq gourmand, a wine cellar but not only. A walk in a non-standard, atypical and historic place. A gourmand journey in time. A historical journey in the old cellars of the Arsenal Arsenal. Tasting workshops around good wines. Thematic evenings: exhibitions, wine meetings, conferences, cooking courses. The visit of the cellars commented by Claudine, the mistress of the passionate places, will enchant you. You will discover the fine bottles of wine growers, antique objects of table and wine and other wonders. The most of the cellar, for the greedy, a choice of olive oils, honey, jams and other chocolates! For the curious, an expo/collection of ceramic fowls. Before leaving, discover the wines of famous stars, Pierre Richard, Gérard Depardieu, Jean Carmet, Jean-Louis Trintignant, Laurent Gerra, Francis Cabrel… A lovely welcome! An indispensable place in Marseille!

MEDITERRANEAN VILLA

Art gallery exhibition space foundation and cultural center
3.4/5
5 reviews

Designed by architect Stefano Boeri, the Mediterranean villa (ex CEREM) was originally intended to become a strategic place to host summits and other meetings designed to reflect on inter-Mediterranean cooperation. Situated between the Old Port and the Joliette, on the esplanade of the J 4 pier, at the foot of Major's Cathedral and at the end of the new Highline of the Phocéean quotation and Euro-Mediterranean, the villa is a non-standard construction, both on and beneath the sea, with an advance of 40 meters above an artificial pond. From the end of 2018, the villa will host the Cosquer Cave Museum. A 90% replenishment of the Cosquer cave can be admired, allowing the public to enjoy the same reproductions of the beautiful prehistoric cave paintings of the inaccessible cave. No doubt one of the events of the year.

COVE BEACHES

3.5/5

True jewels of Marseille! The Calanques is a desert-like mineral universe with relief shaped and carved by the elements, resulting in small coves and sandy beaches. The sunlight is wonderfully pleasant and the sea is always magnificent. Protected site, The National Park of the Calanques shelters a very rich fauna and flora where rare and wonderful species live. To take part in their balance, pay attention to the marked footpaths to preserve the sites and do not throw rubbish here! Beware, the access to the Calanques massif is managed by level of danger and it can be sometimes banned, throughout the year and especially in summer. The choice is up to you: plage de la calanque de Sormiou, plage de Sugiton, calanque de Morgiou, calanque d'En-Vau, plage de Saména... . To enjoy and explore them as it should be, you need several days. Find out more information on the access of the Calanque on 08 11 20 13 13 or www.bouches-du-rhone/pref.gouv.fr.

PUGET HILL GARDEN

Parks and gardens
3.3/5
3 reviews

This is the oldest public gardens in Marseille! It was set up in 1801 by Prefect Charles Delacroix to extend the walk created on the southern ramparts of Marseilles: the Pierre Puget course in sum. Its above-mentioned hill offers an exquisite prospect of rest and relaxation in the fresh grass. Many corners are in the shade. At the top, a playground for children, and of course a beautiful view of the city. You can even see the Old Port. The garden of the hill will take various names before it becomes, in 1872, the garden of Puget Hill and the setting up, at its summit, of Pierre Puget's bust entérina this decision.

Nestled between two cliffs, it is the largest and most famous beach of Carry. It is nevertheless quite far from the town centre. Mixed beach of sand and pebbles (where there is a beautiful ''mise à l'eau''), it is bordered by snacks, restaurants, a car park, accessible to the disabled, with supervised swimming. The beach is exceptional for its panorama and very popular with families. It is worth mentioning the practicality of its large paying car park, as free parking spaces are rare in the vicinity. Very busy in high season, it goes without saying.
