Majestic fountain at the start of the Cours Mirabeau, one of the most emblematic of Aix-en-Provence "the city of a thousand fountains".

It is one of the most famous monuments, even the most emblematic, of Aix-en-Provence. Since 1860, when it was inaugurated, the Rotunda Fountain has dominated the eponymous square from the top of its 12 meters and is the highlight of the no less famous Cours Mirabeau. Its basin, 32 meters in diameter, is decorated with 12 bronze lions that seem to stand guard. At the top of the fountain, three "graces" look in three different directions: Justice towards Aix, trade and agriculture towards Marseille, and finally the fine arts towards Avignon.

La plus grosse n'est pas la meilleure !
Mère des fontaines dAix-en-Provence, vous ne pourrez pas rater ce symbole de la ville et de ces transformations. De l'agréable politique piétonne aux nouvelles boutiques qui ont envahit la ville. Ce n'est certainement pas ni l'endroit le plus intéressant ni celui qui a le plus de charme mais c'est un incontournable. Et pour vous mettre dans la peau d'un étudiant aixois, allez déguster une crêpe à la chantilly chez crêpes à Gogo, dans le passage souterrain et si vous êtes plus salé, ne manquez pas la traditionnelle pizza Capri !
