Read moreEhrenbreitstein Fortress is situated 118 meters above the Rhine, opposite the famous "Deutsches Eck". It is the largest historical fortress in Europe after Gibraltar. Ehrenbreitstein was built by Prussia between 1817 and 1828 as the center of a line of fortifications. The fortress offers an impressive view of the Rhine, the Moselle, the Lahn and the Eifel, Westerwald and Hunsrück mountain ranges. The fortress is part of the entire Upper Middle Rhine Valley and has been on the World Heritage List since 2002.
