13 reviews

The Talensac market is THE flagship of Nantes' commerce. This venerable institution has been in place for 85 years and is still considered THE Nantes market par excellence. To celebrate its 80th anniversary, the association has produced a beautiful book Le Bonheur est au marché de Talensac (available in bookshops) with fascinating testimonies from the shopkeepers and this great family, some of whom have been there for several generations. On the market, with nearly 200 professionals, you must discover its splendid stalls! Here you will find producers from Nantes and the surrounding area, food trades and crafts. The quality, the inventiveness, the creativity of the traders make the reputation of this covered market. It is an attraction for any self-respecting gourmet, but also for the numerous tourists who visit and fall for the quality of the products. People come for the freshness and the respect of the seasons, for the professionalism and the passion of the shopkeepers, who get up very early to offer the best: fruits and vegetables, butcher's meats and poultry with a label, country delicatessen and local products, ready-made meals, fresh water or sea fish, grocery, bakery, cheeses, pastries, Loire wines, caterers from here and elsewhere, everything is there. Even a newsstand and crêpes! Don't miss the big market at the end of the week, with basketry, florists, clothes, handicrafts. Happiness is always at the market!

Place du Maréchal Joffre (commonly known as "Place du Marché") is home to not only the best fresh produce stalls on the Peninsula, but also all kinds of items and clothing from the most classic to the most unusual. The Pornichet market has nearly 100 stalls in winter and 200 in summer. It is one of the largest markets in the destination La Baule-Presqu'île de Guérande, known from the bay of La Baule to South Brittany via Saint-Nazaire and Brière. Among the edible sellers, organic is well represented, with vegetables, but also bread, poultry, milk and cheese. If you like goats, an organic producer with a hat and long hair sells the best and cheapest in the region. An arborist will also supply you with many varieties of exceptional organic apples. Meat, seafood and oysters are not to be missed inside the halls. In summer, you will also find souvenir sellers. You can also enjoy an excellent little nutmeg at the bar once your basket is full. It is recommended to come early or risk impressive tails at the popular stalls. Another market, in the Sainte-Marguerite district, from mid-June to early September. As for the halls, they are open every summer morning to supply you with fresh produce!

At the rendezvous of these two weekly markets: food with pancakes and cakes, butchery-sausage-poultry, cheeses, fruits and vegetables, oysters, fish, Asian delicatessen, and also clothing with hosiery and textiles. MARCHÉ DE TRENTEMOULT

Openair market

This tiny market has more than one trump card in its bag. First of all, it's 100% organic. It has been in place for about ten years and brings together 15/20 producers and traders. There are of course fruit and vegetable producers, but also butchers, pork butchers, fishmongers, cow and goat cheese producers, bakers, not forgetting winemakers and other local craftsmen making jams or herbal teas... As a bonus, a sweet smell of pancakes and take-away cakes floats in the air... Then, this small market is installed on the car park of the port of Trentemoult. That is to say at the entrance of a "postcard" village which is characterised by its pretty colourful houses and its banks of the Loire. Finally because the atmosphere is good-natured. Attended by Trentemousins and onlookers, one feels good there. One comes there on foot or by bike along the river or by Navibus if one lives on the other bank. We make a stop at the Café of the nearby port to drink a small coffee. We walk along the Quai Boissard to admire Roman Signer's Pendulum, a contemporary work of art created as part of the Voyage à Nantes (2009). In short, we take the time to stroll on a Saturday morning.

Established since 1969 on the Ile de Nantes, the M.I.N. (the second largest food wholesaler market in France after Rungis) moved to Rezé at the end of February 2019. With 100 companies and more than 2,000 jobs on the new 65-hectare site, this wholesale shopping centre is part of the history of Nantes.Only market traders, grocers, restaurateurs... have access to this marketreserved for professionals. Here fruit and vegetables are sold, which represent more than half of the M.I.N.'s activity. This sector draws its strength from the regional vegetable and fruit production. It is also one of France's leading banana processing and marketing centres. Sea products are also well represented in the Halle à Marée. Flowers and plants also largely transit through here: since 1989, the Océane Fleurs market has brought together wholesalers of cut flowers, plants and accessories. It also includes important industrial bouquet shops and composition workshops. The universe of this place evokes the vibrant backstage of an activity in the heart of the night and until very early in the morning. IVAN GARBER POISSONNIER

Market
5/5
2 reviews
Closed - Open to 07h00

Ivan Garber has taken his marks at the bottom of the Talensac market. And who says young generation, also says novelties. New desires to treat seafood lovers. Ivan proposes in particular fish labelled "Ikejime". In fact, it is a Japanese method of slaughtering, with a quick "sleep" of the fish, to avoid stressing it: we remove the nervous awareness of the fish before working on it. Thus, the taste, quality and preservation of the product are enhanced. Ivan gets his supplies from different fish markets: Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, Sables-d'Olonne, and also Royan. His idea? To make people rediscover the thousand and one flavors of good fish, as local as possible! He is also keen to help people discover tasty varieties that are sometimes unknown to the general public. Fish to cook or raw for the amateurs, to transform into sushi or ceviche... Here no "fish tail" but very wise advice!
