In the magnificent setting of the ^17th-century Convent das Bernadas (also home to the Puppet Museum), this restaurant replaces La Travessa and offers a cuisine combining ingredients from Portuguese terroirs with French cooking techniques. At the helm of this fine establishment: chef Pedro Henrique Lima and chef João de Oliveira, with the support of French chefs Alexis Gielbaum and Maxime Kien. Result: roast lamb fillet with eggplant and date chutney, duck confit with smoked carrot cream, chocolate mousse or crème brûlée.

In a street that goes up to the Praça do Carmo, this is one of the vegetarian options in the city that offers an interesting and varied buffet. In a pretty room, decorated with black and red tables, you can taste lasagna, pizzas, tomato soup, and very good cheesecakes! You can taste everything you want, it's included in the price because it's a buffet. A good quality-price ratio. Plan to arrive at the beginning of the service if you want to have a choice because the place is always full and the dishes go quickly.

A beautiful space at the corner of Terreiro do Paço, which is a restaurant, brasserie and museum. The museum presents the history of beer in Portugal, with the reconstruction of a former monastic beer factory. We discover how the monks made this drink, the ingredients, the secrets and as a bonus we taste a beer created specifically for the museum. Don't leave without tasting the classic "Bohémia" beer or the Portuguese-speaking specialities, or the bacalhau pasteis made from cod and processed cheese.

Pitéu is a word that means food in Portuguese. The name of the restaurant announces the color! There's food here, and it's good too. The concept is more of a tapas style to share, but there are also individual dishes. You can taste typical dishes of revisited and quality: different starters, meat dishes (beef steaks on the stone, duck confit...) or fish (octopus, sardines, tuna steak)... Cherry on the cake, the decor is very elegant and intimate. The French menu is not always well translated.

A very good address to recommend on Setúbal! In this welcoming place with its modern and trendy decoration, you can enjoy very well prepared and tasty dishes. The restaurant is located in a small street in the city centre and also has a terrace. Inside, you will have seen the open kitchen to see the cooks in action! As its name suggests, the place will delight lovers of good steaks but it will not leave behind those who prefer fish or vegetarian dishes. There is something for everyone!

In a street, a little higher than the praça de Alegria, this vegetarian restaurant has a large room with a covered terrace overlooking a flowery and relaxing garden. The kitchen gives pride of place to well-being, and in addition, you can even enjoy a little moment of relaxation, thanks to the formulas, meals and massage. For lunch only, a buffet does not disappoint. We advise you to taste the four-cheese lasagne or the cannelloni, a real treat. A friendly place with a smiling welcome.

Formerly Casa do Carmo, this pretty old-fashioned pastry shop (it dates from 1787!), made entirely of stucco and chromos, in the no less beautiful Carmo square, was frequented by Fernando Pessoa. Ideal for a break after climbing the Chiado hill, while enjoying the atmosphere of the square. A friendly place, in summer and winter alike, overrun by students from the nearby school. This reinforces the village atmosphere, which is very relaxing after shopping. Perfect for a sandwich or a sweetness; the dishes are not too expensive, especially indoors.

Wood, marble, copper counters in this institution opened since 1782. Many personalities have passed through this brewery, including Fernando Pessoa. Today, some tertúlias (convivial intellectual meetings) are still held in its historic interior room. The prices displayed seem to take advantage of the reputation of the place, which has become a tourist attraction. The cuisine (a lot of fish: cataplana de peixes mistos, red mullet, sea bass...) is correct but not much more, even if sometimes the dish of the day is economical.

Attended by a rather well-to-do clientele, acquired during its more than 70 years of existence, Gambrinus is considered to be one of the best traditional addresses in the city, located in a street well endowed with addresses to choose from. Fish, seafood, an excellent wine list, and therefore a (somewhat disputed!) reputation. Empadão de perdrix (Monday), fish soup rica (Wednesday), grilled cherry with gribiche sauce, Rothschild soufflé. Overrated house and really too salty note!

Beneath the arches and vaults of the former stables of the palace of the Counts of Valadares, here's a beautiful space that's both a delicatessen and a wine cellar, as well as a restaurant with several lounges. It's full of charm, offering a wide choice of meats (bifes...), fish (tuna...) and seafood (octopus...). There's also a petiscos (Portuguese tapas) bar and a café-patisserie. The management has had the bright idea of programming a few photo exhibitions and occasional well-attended concerts, notably in the form of jazz concert cycles.

This antiga casa de pasto, a tavern dating back to 1814, is known for its pretty wooden interior divisions, which, according to legend, were used to hatch dark conspiracies or to count flirtations in all discretion. Today, the small dining rooms are still there... The proposed cuisine is honest, unpretentious but tasty: fried prawns, grilled chouriço, cod in Brás... The desserts are excellent (inevitable pudim flan and toucinho do céu), but you can also stop for a simple sande (sandwich).

One room on the ground floor, another in the basement for organic and well-balanced meals, sometimes a little waiting. Soups, salads, vegetable gratins, cereal steaks and Southern know-how. What could be more normal? Since women of African origin are in charge of the composition. Very economical. The establishment also offers a grocery store, a specialized bookstore as well as meetings and activities (macrobiotic courses). Also happy hours and promotions in the early evening. Recommended!

Near the Alcântara train station, this popular brasserie specializing in seafood sets the tone right from the window, with its full aquarium. In a large, bustling room with overpowering lighting, you can opt for excellent shellfish, masinha de garoupa (scorpion fish) com gambas, arroz de tamboril (monkfish rice) or good grilled fish, all in a vibrant atmosphere punctuated by the hammering of customers tapping their crabs. Unfortunately, the restaurant has lost some of its quality of service.

Near the praça de Londres, designed in 1946, the Arty house is still managed by the same family today. Completely remodelled in 1962, the particularity of this pastelaria-restaurant lies in its very colourful interior coverings, supported by a wall clock surrounded by geometric motifs and a ceramic panel signed by master Querubim Lapa. In the basement, the restaurant serves duck water or cod lagarada... In addition to enjoying the space, for its outdated beauty, you will also enjoy its terrace.

Close to the tourist office, with a view of the large park stretching from the beach of Tamariz to the casino, this is one of the too few restaurants in the area that offers reasonable prices for popular cuisine. The shade of its terrace at lunchtime or the spectacle of its good-natured entertainment (on Friday and Saturday evenings in summer) make us appreciate the menu of Senhor Victor. There is no lack of beautiful fish dishes, grilled meats and roasted chickens. The service is always alert for this meeting point, for all generations, since 1956.

In an English-style "bellissima" house with a view of the sea, once held in the 1940s by a Scottish spy, in a hunting lodge setting, the typical menu can be composed as follows: gratinated prawns with spinach, monkfish in the oven before the passage of the homemade dessert cart, coffee. Seafood and game (in season) are truly excellent, but unfortunately excessively expensive! Perhaps this is the price of the glory of the house of Sarah Sobral, the former owner's granddaughter.

Here's an improbably tiny family restaurant! Beware: CURIOSITY! For more than 40 years, north of Cascais, it has resembled an Ali Baba's cave, its walls and ceilings covered with an incredible bric-a-brac: clocks, cauldrons, copperware, knick-knacks, antiques and brocante. The cuisine is grandmotherly, and the grilled meats are truly excellent. One of the house specialties: wild boar(javali) with gambas in a garlic tomato sauce, served on a heated tile. A little wonder in the middle of nowhere!

This house is part of the family history! At lunchtime and on weekends, it's always busy until closing time! Near the fishing port, "le loup de mer" offers the chance to choose your own fresh fish of the day before it is grilled no carvão (over charcoal). Caldeirada, clams and the inevitable sardines are the stars, accompanied by a bell pepper salad and a jar of white sangria. This address, with its simple terrace, is dedicated exclusively to seafood products, and so much the better, because that's what we came for!

Facing the sea front, this restaurant, besides serving fresh fresh fish and seafood, offers an alternative with its Burgundian fondue (you have read well!). Even more surprising for the locality, a sushi and sashimis selection served on Sunday. To accompany the desserts, you can seek advice from Madeira's muscatel, ports and wines. At the right price, given the quality!

More economical than the Cervejaria Ramiro, a little higher up the avenue, it has a wide choice of shellfish, fish and seafood (the great specialty!), plus some grilled meats. There is no long line here, although both rooms are always full. The dishes, at the right price, are well prepared, the service is efficient and the atmosphere quietly informal since 1973. If you don't mind going to THE restaurant mentioned in all the guides, it's better to choose this option.

Slightly hidden away near the elevador da Bica and the Santa Catarina viewpoint, a simple tavern serving good Portuguese cuisine. Very informal and rather relaxed, with its kitchen on view, it offers grilled meats and fish, well cooked and seasoned just right, as well as a few more or less elaborate homemade preparations. The menu is small in size, but big in terms of quality and meets the highest standards! It's best to arrive early to find a seat, as the place is a big hit with the locals...

On the heights in a pleasant setting, for those who are allergic to seafood, it offers South African cuisine with a great variety of grilled grillés. Prepared lamb or chicken complete the main dishes, because the starters and desserts are less interesting. Valid wine list and friendly welcome. 

This small typical restaurant with a welcoming and intimate atmosphere is located in the heart of the Alfama district at the top of the dos Remedios street, which goes up to the right of the square, in front of the Fado museum. The speciality of the house is the charcoal grilled meat and fresh fish, made right in front of your eyes, on the right side of the entrance. The service is attentive and is served even late in the evening, until 2am. An address that is sure to please all groups, friends or family looking for conviviality.

In a small travessa, not far from the Museum of Fine Arts, at the top of a building, a small canteen with a breathtaking terrace overlooking the Tagus. Between noon and midday, local employees come to eat a dish of the day and enjoy one of the best views in the area. Simple, unpretentious dishes of the day. This is undoubtedly one of our favorite places to eat at this price, with this view, right in the center of Lisbon. Why not spend the afternoon sipping a drink while reading the Petit Futé Lisbon...?

Here is the first Lebanese restaurant that opened its doors in Lisbon! It is run by the El Dib family, who settled in the capital more than 20 years ago. So of course, you will not be surprised to taste typical dishes, like the "kebbé maklieh", speciality of cow meat with ground corn and its small onions, but also tabbouleh or falafels. A good address to dive into the bewitching flavors of the East. And let's not forget to underline the presentation and the quality service.

A small tasca that does not look like much, popular and multicultural, you will discover a patchwork of the cuisine of the former Portuguese colonies. This canteen offers you dishes from Mozambique, Angola and Goa. Good meat dishes, "cabrito with curry or coconut" (cabri), "gambas with curry"... The mango juice is extra and fresh, some vegetarian dishes, and good homemade desserts (the "maracuja" mousse, passion fruit, is excellent). The welcome is always friendly, and the atmosphere very friendly on its small terrace.

A tasca, typical and popular in Graça, with a very good reputation. Classics of Portuguese cuisine, Bacalhau a braz, and meat dishes. We eat a simple cuisine with gargantuan parts. A slightly old-fashioned atmosphere that has lived, but that's what makes it so charming. A warm welcome, to sum up in two words: "bon vivant". Plan time because, as a victim of its success, the restaurant is full for lunch. However, the service is generally quite fast once installed at the table.

A traditional "tasquinha" as we like them, only a few tables to taste a simple and excellent cuisine. A typical decoration with some ceramic dishes on the walls where you can read some sayings. To tell you the atmosphere of the house, one of them says "here the customer is the most important of the house"! We totally agree! A very good address to eat a grilled fish, cod or a dish of the day. Although located in a smart district, it keeps a good quality-price ratio and thus remains a sure value.

A typical Lisbon address, inside the Time out Market, with a view on fruits and vegetables. You can eat traditional dishes of the day such as sea bream. The walls are filled with azulejos, with matching tablecloths, in yellow and blue, and a large brick bar. Special feature: the house is open all night long, so you can come and have a bite to eat at any time. Recently the opinions have become mixed on the quality of the dishes served. The address is probably a victim of the success of the market, which is always full. It is necessary to hang on to have a place.

In April 2016, a new space with a diversified offer was opened in the heart of the Chiado district. It's a unique concept developed by three partners who have given new life to an old palace dating back to 1781. The palace is distinguished by its architecture - the imposing interior staircase is a sight to behold. Faithfully restored to its origins, with magnificent murals and stained glass windows, the place harmoniously combines the ancient and the modern. Quality dishes are served in this warm setting.

A good place to eat traditional dishes, in existence since 1970. Located not far from the station, you can spot the restaurant's entrance by its azulejo sign. Inside, the rustic decor evokes the Portuguese countryside, typical of any self-respecting traditional restaurant. A wide choice of dishes à la carte, including fish, meat and "combinados", something for everyone. Beware, if you don't specify, they tend to charge for what is known here as the "couvert" (bread, olives, etc.).

Sunset Bamboo Bar boasts the largest tostas (XXL tostas) and it's true! You'll have a hard time dealing with it on your own. Unless you have an ogre's appetite or are at least two to share, we advise you to order only one half. We wonder where they get the bread to get such large slices. To refresh yourself, you can choose fresh fruit juices such as guava or mango or detox juice. Otherwise, you will also find pancakes, açaí bowls...

If you're in the mood for pesticos (Portuguese-style tapas), this address is open non-stop all day long! You'll find cheese and charcuterie platters, typical salads with cod and chickpeas, choriço assado, morcela... The space is divided into several small rooms and has a pretty vintage decor. A warm welcome awaits you, and you can also sit out on the terrace in fine weather. This address has become very popular, but reservations are essential.

It is one of the discoveries of Le Petit Futé, a stone's throw from the church of São Cristavão. Here is a brunch coffee as we like them, nestled in the Mouraria. O Ninho means "the nest" in Portuguese and indeed, here you feel at home in a cosy and warm atmosphere. Marion and Stanislas offer you very good quality brunches with muesli, orange juice, scrambled eggs... In good French, they also offer chouquettes prepared every morning but also a range of local products (homemade Port beers, Douro wines, delicatessen...)

What could be better, after a day on the beach, than to enjoy a little more while watching the sunset on the terrace with a good cold beer and a pizza? this is what awaits you if you go to the Capricciosa pizzeria. With a modern and refined decoration, its large bay window overlooking the ocean, this establishment has many tables and that's good because many people go there every evening. The pizzas are traditional and of high quality. Many choices with vegetarian options, as well as pasta dishes.

Both a gourmet shop and a small canteen, it is a very pleasant place to stop for lunch. If you are lucky, you will find room on the terrace (seats are expensive). Otherwise there are a few tables inside to taste dishes of local delicatessen and cheese. If you prefer something lighter, you also have some very good salads, all homemade. To accompany all this, you will have a drinks list with a selection of homemade beers and wines.

Its name refers to the pizza dough, made here from flour 00. From the wine bar with a menu of more than 80 Italian nectars to the proseccos, as well as the delicatessen and cheese stalls that can be tasted on site or taken away... the products, all certified, come from the boot, and more particularly from Veneto. A la carte: salads, pasta and pizzas. Pizzas made of thin, crunchy and flavoured dough, they are the success of the house. In good weather, you can enjoy the superb terrace overlooking the botanical garden.

Located at the end of the small square, on the side of the Rossio station, this very central restaurant is part of the walls of the railway station. It looks like a brewery and is a bright and friendly place where one is surprised by the decoration based on ancient objects around the railways, coming straight from the railway museum of Entroncamento. Here you can enjoy Portuguese gastronomy dishes made from quality products: fish brochettes, octopus and cod in the oven or cod salads . Very nice terrace in fine weather.

The name of this pizzeria comes from its oven covered with a thin layer of gold, installed in a corner of the room. It's an opportunity to taste the real Neapolitan pizza, "the Michelin star of pizzas"! Its dough is unique, made from organic and natural yeast, which Tanka, the owner, brought from Italy. Other dishes, specialties of the house, are proposed as beef cooked at low temperature. For the amateurs, a choice of more than 35 craft beers from different countries is also proposed. To finish, we can't resist the homemade tiramisu.

Between the seafront and the town hall of Sesimbra, everyone knows this little family business! This paradise of fresh seafood, shellfish and crustaceans pleases us for its friendly welcome and its typical atmosphere, sprinkled with white sangria. Clams, knives, crabs move the crowds... In season, we often have to wait in line to enjoy snails or small fried cuttlefish(chocos)... Take away sale of petiscos possible, reasonable prices if you know how to stay wise. Smiling and authentic service.

Open only in the beautiful days, under trees and parasols, for those who missed on June 13 th (the Saint-Antoine!), one of the nice places to graze on sardines (during the season of the small fish mascot of the capital: June to July) or other fish of the day or cuttlefish (venom), the rest of the time. Despite a inconsistent service, the atmosphere is very typical with the tables timed on a level of the calçadinha and the grill before you… Hence the interest of going to be outside the summer (history of writing even if there are few other possibilities given the calendar and space of this restaurant!) with less risk than your clothes you talk about tides for a week. In addition, we love roasted peppers, fried with olive oil and with onions and then the sangria in good agreement!

In a rustic room, everyone is placed side by side according to their order of arrival, regardless of because everyone here is friends, or in any case treated as such. Petiscos and rich food dishes from the Minho region: fried rabbit, grilled cabri, fish (sável/shad). Depending on the age and season it is possible, here, to the north of Lisbon to enjoy game and fish caught in fresh water…

This small restaurant with its welcoming and warm decoration is located in São Pedro de Sintra in the main street that joins the historical centre (in the descent 20 m after the traffic light). We come here for a small meal on the go, to taste it, or more simply toast with friends. At all times, it offers a cuisine based on "tapas" (petiscos). Especially since the products are very fresh and some of them are of organic origin. For the wines a small but rigorous selection. The owners also speak French.

Inside an old printing house, sharing the same roof as the very popular Ler Devagar bookstore, you will be able to taste some dishes inspired by Asian cuisine. For example, an excellent duck in soy sauce, a tender crab and its curries. A fusion cuisine, with a choice of à la carte dishes from Malaysia, Thailand and China. All the guests are sure to find the dish that will delight their taste buds as the proposals are so varied. Good welcome and service.

A small restaurant just below the Assembly of the Republic. It's not very conspicuous from the street, so keep your eyes peeled as you stroll along. It's when you look down that you notice it, with its often-filled tables. Inside, you'll find wooden tables, a mix of antique furniture and contemporary decor, and on sunny days, a small sunny terrace. It's run by an Italian couple who don't offer pizzas, but dishes straight from the boot, which you can accompany with a good wine.
