A Frenchman, Serge Viallelle (sadly deceased in 2019), fell in love with the Azores and settled there in 1987. He was the first to organize outings to observe cetaceans. He was also the very first author of the Petit Futé guide to the Azores! After a 20-minute presentation, you can head out to sea on a 10 m semi-rigid boat and meet the mammal. Arm yourself with a camera and expect a few thrills. You'll need to know how to swim, and approach this adventure in a sporting spirit.

Nélia Xavier (who speaks a little French) and her husband offer guided hikes and horse rides. Mountain guide services. The horseback ride (accessible to all levels, including beginners) around Piedade lasts 2 hours and leads to a beautiful viewpoint over the ocean and São Jorge (and Terceira, when the weather is very nice). The walk can end with a nice snack including bread, cheese and typical wines. A very serious agency that offers natural activities, while respecting the environment.

Nilton, a great and charming azorean young man, is an experienced mountain guide that knows Mount Pico by heart. Another major asset: he is fluent in French! It will provide you with exciting information on this fabulous mountain (geology, botany, history…). You are particularly recommended!

The Abegoaria team will help you discover Pico on foot, by car, mini-bus, bicycle or... on the back of a donkey! All means of transport combined, they offer many routes, such as the lava path, the lake route, the island tour or the ascent of Mount Pico. Many other activities are available to get in touch with nature and animals: whale and bird watching, fishing and caving... There is something for all tastes and ages. A great agency that will leave you with an unforgettable memory.

Six semi-rigid boats take you to see whales and dolphins (the "bath" with dolphins is by far the most popular activity). The guides speak several languages, including French. The centre also offers diving trips and land activities. A shop is located at the airport to facilitate your contact. Pico Sport finally organizes outings to meet sharks, a practice that we do not support because it helps to unbalance the animal, artificially baited by humans.

Futurismo is an agency specializing in sea outings (whale and dolphin watching). It operates all year round in Ponta Delgada, although in winter it's a little more difficult to get out due to the somewhat capricious weather conditions. Outings are aboard zodiacs, catamarans or larger boats (in high season). The agency also offers a wide range of other activities: swimming with dolphins, canyoning, kayaking, hiking, biking, birdwatching, jeep and van excursions...
