KRAVAN PRASATE

Archaeological site

Completed in 921, Prasat Kravan, or the cardamom temple, had five monumental towers, only two of which are still standing. Its construction was not decided by a sovereign but by senior officials of the priests of the court, which explains why it stands a little on the periphery of the centre of Angkor Thom. Some bas-reliefs relating the Vishnu myths are quite remarkable, especially those of Vishnu and his wife Lakshmi, sculpted from the bricks of the temple. A style then in vogue in the Cham Empire, but very rare in Khmer art, proof that cultural ties united the two enemy peoples. PRASAT MOHAH NOKOR (KUK NOKOR)

Monuments to visit

It is a very beautiful monument in a classic style; The sanctuary has a covered body of an corbel vault, the ensemble resting on the forming a terrace, three will meet with three false doors. The exterior wall wall is 3 m high and is interrupted in two places; the first time by the entrance to the east, as for all the shivaïtes temples, in the form of a gopura in three passages, then again in the middle of its western facade by another gopura of identical style but not pierced passages. The first body of the sanctuary is decorated with nice classical rondes and a very beautiful lintel named Indra dancing on the three heads of the Airavata elephant. You can meet on site a francophone achar (pagoda assistant) who will be happy to guide you and show you the flowers that it grows in the aisles of the temple, all in the middle of a cloud of children coming swimming in its basins. Access to the temple is not paid, but you can always leave a tip.

5/5
1 review

Siem Reap is a town in Cambodia, famous for the Angkor archaeological site. However, the town also offers other tourist attractions, such as the Kulen Elephant Forest. This animal park and farm offers visitors the chance to discover elephants in their natural habitat. The sanctuary's facilities have been designed with the environment in mind, including the reuse of recycled wood and furniture from the hotel industry. The elephants enjoy a natural bath all year round, and can take advantage of the clay-rich mud banks to care for their skin. Visitors can choose between different experiences, such as a morning with the elephants or an afternoon session. Meals served are vegetarian, but unfortunately vegan options are not currently available. It is recommended to bring sports shoes, sunglasses, a hat, sun cream, mosquito spray and clothes that can get dirty. Cancellation policies are as follows: 75% refund for cancellations more than 48 hours in advance, 50% for cancellations less than 48 hours in advance and no refund for cancellations less than 24 hours in advance. Tour times are subject to change depending on weather conditions and the needs of the elephants. Visitors must arrive 15 minutes before the start of the tour and any delay will not be refunded. The park also offers a camping experience under the stars with the elephants, as well as volunteer opportunities.
