TA SOM
Peaceful temple founded by Jayavarman VII in the late century, in the Bayon style and dedicated to the Buddha
Like Ta Nei temple, Ta Som is a little off the beaten tourist track. It therefore enjoys a peaceful atmosphere, and the few visitors come mainly to admire the giant ficus that has completely engulfed one of the gopuras. Built by Jayavarman VII at the end of the 12th century, this temple dedicated to Buddha follows the style of the Bayon, with its towers encircled by enigmatic faces. Work was carried out by Henri Marchal in 1930, but the temple has suffered greatly from overgrowth. A few pediments lying on the ground are worth a look.
