Monuments to visit Canal du Midi

You have already crossed the Garonne from the New Bridge, which allows the passage between the districts of Esquirol and Saint-Cyprien, connecting the rue de la République to the rue de Metz. If construction began in the sixteenth century, the inauguration took place only in 1659, more than a century later. Today it is one of the most beautiful French bridges, admiring any time, from the wharves of Tounis and the Daurade. Although it has been somewhat restored over time, it is nevertheless very solid, having been built to withstand floods and the unleashed river, with its 7 irregular arches.

It is a major book of the Canal du Midi, with eight basins and nine doors allowing to cross a height of 21,50 metres over a length of more than 300 metres. True water staircase, technical prowess for the time, locks are a permanent attraction, still active despite the construction of an innovative book, the water slope, next but often broken.

Built at the beginning of the 15th century, the first town hall was called the "Maison Commune". Remains its black basaltic stone crest of Agde, surrounded by a carved heart where the letters "C.C" are engraved (Corps Consulaire) and above, the date: 1587.

The Hotel de Ville is a spacific former house. The Municipality settled there in 1919. It is in 1980 that it takes its current aspect with the complete renovation of the entrance hall, transformed into a reception and exhibition room which now houses a collection of ancient remains, treasures collected in the Etang de Thau.

In the heart of the old medieval neighborhood, within walking distance from Basilique Saint-Paul-Serge, this private residence is one of the jewels of the district of Bourg. This is the only type of Renaissance architecture of the sixteenth century Narbonne still has. Maison des Trois Nourrices owes its name to the large breasts of the caryatids of its facade. These sculptures surround the bay with pier glass and adorn the southern frontage. In Narbonne, it is said that the house received Molière and that Cinq-Mars was arrested while he plotted against Richelieu. Since its restoration in 2007, it has been housing the Prenatal Service of the Hospital. This house can be visited within European Heritage Days.
