Beautiful brick building used to store gunpowder and protect the municipal archives
What is called the Capitol dungeon was the Tower of the Consistory, the council of the city's consuls. Erected in 1525, it was located in the heart of the old city hall. This beautiful brick building was also used to store gunpowder and to protect the municipal archives until 1946. During its restoration in the 19th century, Viollet-le-Duc gave it the appearance of a Nordic belfry by adding a slate roof! Beautiful gothic vaults are to be seen inside which shelters an information point of the tourist office and a store.
