PROVINCETOWN THEATER

Concert halls

This is a showroom that's famous all over Massachusetts. The Provincetown Theater Foundation troupe was formed in 2001. The programming is varied, with a mix of classic plays (such as You Can't Take it With You from 1938) and more modern productions (Sweeney Todd: The Evil Barber of Fleet Street, based on Tim Burton's film of the same name, was a big hit in 2019). Provincetown residents enjoy the theatre year-round. The program is available on the website.

OFFSHORE ALE CO.

Pub

It's one of the nicest pubs in Oak Bluffs and even on the island. This craft brewery serves a wide range of local beers, which vary with the seasons. Try the pumpkin beer for Thanksgiving, it's not sure you'll find it good, but it's an original idea! The service is welcoming and the atmosphere is warm, especially in the evening - you can't hear yourself tasting your pint. The menu features classic dishes, pulled pork sandwich, coleslaw and other burgers.

ARTSEMERSON - PARAMOUNT CENTER

Concert halls

When it opened its doors in 1937, this theatre was one of the first in Boston to offer films. At that time, it could seat up to 1,700 people! It closed its doors in 1976 and, unfortunately, its beautiful Art Deco interior was largely destroyed. Today, it hosts international film, theatre, music and dance productions. It underwent major renovations between 2005 and 2010 and can accommodate up to 550 people.

THE RITZ

Bar and caf

This is what the Americans call a dive bar, a neighbourhood bar with a relaxed atmosphere, where pretension is not in order. To some, The Ritz is the last real bar on Martha's Vineyard. For over 75 years now, its regulars have been gathering around its wooden bar and drinking a fresh foam while chatting with the bartender. The decoration is a bit retro without being worked on, as can be seen from the magazine pages cut out and simply glued to the wall. We come here to drink a beer while listening to the blues live.

OLD COLONY TAP

Bar and caf

Provincetown doesn't only have trendy cocktail bars: the city also has its own dive bar, and the atmosphere is as relaxed as one can imagine! The Old Colony Tap is a popular bar where gay and straight customers mix happily. We like its marine atmosphere, with its buoys as decoration, and its tavern-like look, with its large used wooden tables that smell like beer. Besides, what we drink in this bar is mostly pints. The maritime tradition of P-Town can be found here in its most festive aspect.

PHOENIX LANDING

Bar and caf

An Irish pub, typical of the area, with its share of students who come to toast to exams. We like the authentic side of the place, which relies on its atmosphere and its large selection of beers, which includes some specialties from Massachusetts. The atmosphere heats up as you move through the evening, as it does in any Irish pub. Beware, it's noisy and crowded. Activities are organized every night, from concerts to pub quizzes (Geeks who drink), perfect for making new friends. A lively atmosphere is guaranteed!

MIRACLE OF SCIENCE BAR & GRILL

Bar and caf

This is a nice place to drink a beer and relax, with its large windows that let in the light and its designer interior. Many MIT students come here to relax in the evenings after classes and on weekends. In fact, as a nod to the clientele, the menu, written in chalk on a blackboard, is presented in the form of a periodic table! You can nibble on tacos and other chips on the premises, or even opt for a burger.

THE BRATTLE THEATRE

Concert halls

This independent cinema is a former theatre housed in a beautiful building dating from 1890 and located near Harvard Square. It has a single room and is one of the only cinemas in the country to use rear projection technology (the projector is behind the screen and not behind the spectators). Interesting programming, which changes American blockbusters: films from the 1950s, independent or international films with subtitles, but also documentaries. Many Harvard students attend it.

ROYALE BOSTON

Club

The Royale is an obligatory stop on Boston nights! The place, rather elegant with its large spaces and balconies, offers a rather successful lounge atmosphere. But it's especially its programming that pleases: hip-hop, R&B and reggae nights, DJ and electro nights, latino music, etc. Numerous concerts are organized there. There is no specific dress code, but casual clothes (shorts, flip-flops, sportswear, hats and backpacks) are not always allowed. Sneakers are not allowed on Saturday evenings.

OAK LONG BAR

Bar and caf

A chic bar in the no less chic and luxurious Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel. A great choice of cocktails and wines to enjoy in this place voted best bar in the city by Boston Common Magazine in 2022. The Oak Bar (whose decor is reminiscent of English officers' clubs in the Orient) is undoubtedly one of the most elegant bars in the city, but it is also an excellent restaurant. One can easily come to dine there while sipping some delicious cocktails perfectly made. The service is neat, and the subdued atmosphere very pleasant.

SONSIE

Bar and caf

The place is mostly known for its restaurant, its efficient service and its Sunday brunches, but don't forget the bar, often crowded, very nice to just have a drink or wait for a table. You can take advantage of many promotions, like the oysters at half price on Monday afternoons when you sit at the bar, or the beer and pizza combo for the modest sum of 12 US$. The offers change regularly but they are written on the mirror behind the bar. The atmosphere is elegant and bourgeois, very Back Bay.

ROCKPORT MUSIC-SHALIN LIU PERFORMANCE CENTER

A special feature of this concert hall is the bay window at the back of the stage with a view of the sea. Occasionally, however, the curtain is drawn for acoustic purposes, depending on the band's needs.
