Things to see and do Causses et Cévennes

The origin of the name of this rocky rock was that it was through this natural passage that we could descend from the Larzac by taking a route cut in the rock. Culminating at 616 meters above sea level, the Pas de l 'Escalette has long been a simple mule road. Although it has a breathtaking view of the Lergue waterfalls, the proximity to the A 75 motorway removes a little charm from the place.

Coming from the Atlantic coast, the practice of erecting megaliths reached the south of France around 3,600 BC. The territory of Lozere, and the Causses region, was then covered with menhirs and dolmens, funerary constructions buried under mounds. The Cham-des-Bondons (north-east of Florac) has a number of menhirs which has nothing to envy to the site of Carnac. Under the aegis of the Cévennes National Park, several discovery circuits have been established.

The site is part of the Cévenne Ecomuseum: explanatory panels help visitors to discover this natural area located on a rocky base overlooking the Tarnon valley. The big beast is called grallator minusculus, the prints are those of its toes (50 cm). As for the animal itself, it would have been of a total length of 7 to 8 m. A small dinosaur, therefore, which left its tracks in the calcareous clay, 200 million years ago.

Le Cri du Castor is an address unlike any other. A museum, workshop and boutique dedicated to the history of blue and the practice of indigo, the premises include a discovery area in the garden and an area for workshops. Upon reservation, visitors can try their hand at a number of artisanal techniques: vegetable dyeing, Japanese shibori, weaving, painting, etc. for a day or half-day (in summer only). The boutique also sells clothing, accessories and household linen, in indigo shades of course!

The department's first dinosaur theme park is a breathtaking experience for the whole family. Suitable for all ages, from the very young to the very old, the park takes visitors on a wild ride to discover Velociraptors, T-Rexes, Stegosaurus and their congeners. Numerous activities keep the adventure alive and kicking, especially in the excavation zones, where children go in search of bones. A restaurant serves sandwiches, salads and platters, so you can enjoy the park all day long.
