Situated along the Roman road that linked Carhaix-Plouguer to Châteaulin, the town owes its name to the castle built overlooking the Aulne, of which only a few ruins remain. Green valleys and the omnipresence of water, the calm banks of the river are a paradise for fishermen and walkers. These landscapes inspired Paul Sérusier, the famous painter and disciple of Gauguin, who settled in the town at the beginning of the last century. The town has even set up a permanent walking trail to follow in his footsteps and discover the area in an unexpected way. The parish church is even decorated with his murals.
