Châteaulin, the central town of Finistère, lies in a green valley on the banks of the Nantes-Brest canal. Over the centuries, this municipality in the Parc d'Armorique developed thanks to its slate quarries, agricultural activities and, above all, a major salmon fishery. The canal on which the Aulne flows is now a leisure area for fishing, canoeing and walking along the towpath. Châteaulin also boasts a rich heritage, including the Notre-Dame chapel and the viaduct. The town is also well known to cycling fans for the Boucles de l'Aulne, an internationally renowned cycling competition. A market is held here on Thursday mornings.
