MAISON JAYET

This sumptuous century residence now houses the town hall.
Dating back to the 16th century, the Maison Jayet boasts one of the most beautiful Renaissance facades in France. It was built between 1525 and 1528 by a wealthy draper named Pierre Jayet. Its stone facade is richly decorated with shells and medallions representing - allegedly, as nothing is established with certainty - the kings of France and some of the town's notables. The Maison Jayet is nicknamed the "Maison des poupons" because of its carved cherubs. One of them, a flute-player, stands opposite a window, while two other, non-musical cherubs complete the décor of Maison Jayet. Completely renovated in 1994, this sumptuous residence now houses the town hall.
