Halong Bay is one of the most beautiful natural sites in the world. Its landscapes are exceptional: giants of stone emerge from its transparent waters. In 2000, UNESCO included Halong Bay on its list of World Heritage sites. A Chinese legend attributes the formation of the site to a land dragon that took up residence here. When he threw himself into the sea(Ha long means "descent of the dragon"), the rising water level gave rise to these exceptional landscapes. Legend has it that the dragon takes refuge in the bay twice a year, at the summer solstice and the autumn equinox, thus domesticating the sea currents.
