In the north-east of the bay, this island is one of the furthest from the coastline (counting 5 hours of navigation and the Cai Rong pier), about kilometres from Ha Long on Bird Flight. It is relatively extensive, with a landscape of hills culminating at 170 m (Nui Hai Dang). A lighthouse serves as a bitter aux to the many ships crossing around. The island is covered with pine forests. There is a fishery, one of the most important in Quang Ninh province, and perliculture is practised there. The island also boasts the largest statue of Ho Chi Minh in the region. It was originally the first to be built in its living and then rebuilt. The beaches of the island of Co To are very beautiful and the island has many advantages that explain that the province's authorities want to develop eco-tourism there. Today, the island is still largely away from tourist circuits and hosting capacities are summarized. Furthermore, it has already happened that the authorities are refusing boarding to the island for foreign tourists. The island is regarded as a border area, which explains this vigilance.
