MAISON DE LAMARTINE
House built in 1705 where Alphonse de Lamartine spent a sweet and happy childhood from 1794 to 1801.
Built in 1705 by the poet's great-great-grandfather, the Maison de Lamartine is located at the center of a vast wine-growing estate established in the 17th century. It was in this large, simple, single-storey house with a large enclosed courtyard that little Alphonse de Lamartine spent a happy, gentle childhood from 1794 to 1801. Very attached to the house, the poet had to sell it because he was too deeply in debt. Today, the house is privately owned by the de Sornay family.
