Strezimir/Стрезимир is an abandoned village in the municipality of Gostivar. It lies at an altitude of 1,208 m, in the Korab massif and within the Mavrovo National Park, along the Radika River and under the Korab massif shared with Albania, 12 km south of the Gora region (Kosovo) and 23 km northwest of Mavrovi Anovi. Motorable road, no bus connections. This village is the best starting point for climbing Golem Korab, the highest peak in North Macedonia and Albania, at 2,764 m altitude. Strezimir was destroyed during the Balkan Wars (1912-1913). It was once inhabited by the Škreti minority of Albanian-speaking Macedonians, the majority of whom were Orthodox Christians. Today, there are ruined houses, a makeshift camping area and two border posts. In the abandoned village itself, the Pobeda post guards the passes that allow you to climb the Golem Korab and descend to Albania. Nearly 6 km downstream from the village, the temporary border post of Strezimir-Restelica watches over crossings (on foot only) to the superb but very isolated Gora region, at the southern tip of Kosovo. To find out about the administrative procedures for crossing these two borders, contact the mountain guide agencies or the Mavrovo National Park information center.
