54,172 inhabitants. Formerly called Kanjirakuttom, this city is the capital of the Kasaragod district, located on the border of the state of Karnataka and bordering the Malabar coast. It is animated by a great religious variety (as shown by the important number of temples, churches and mosques), a strong political activity and a fervor particularly strong during the festivals of Onam and Vishu. Few accommodations for tourists are available in the city, but you will find pristine and almost deserted beaches in its vicinity: a privileged destination for those who wish to venture off the beaten track.
