This wave-beaten peninsula protects the waters of the Bay of Islands. Its Maori name, Rakaumangamanga Mai Hawaiki Herenga Waka o Nga Tupuna, means "branch of the many tribes of our ancestors from Hawaiiki, the gathering place of our ancestors' canoes". Along its cliffs, 7 peaks represent the 7 canoes of the first Polynesians who came during the Great Migration. Cape Brett is one of the peaks of the Polynesian triangle formed with Hawaii and Easter Island. For those who enjoy walking and secluded spots, you can rent a hut near the Brett lighthouse: 8-hour walk, 16 km from Rawhiti.
