Chonta is a very small village built on the heights of the Apurimac canyon. It came out of anonymity a few years ago, because a short hike from the village allows you to see the king of the Andes, the condor, flying over the canyon. If you don't have the opportunity to see the Colca condors, Chonta offers an interesting alternative. Chonta is located 98 km northwest of Cusco and can be reached by car in about 3.5 hours. The local community has been given a mission to spread the word and now receives tourists, usually through agencies in Cusco, to share this unique natural heritage.
