Not far from the town of Abasolo, this archaeological site is one of the most extensive of the civilization that developed in the Bajío before the first millennium, more specifically during the Ancient Classic (300-750 AD). This little-known culture had developed a system of agriculture on hundreds of terraces built on the slopes of the Peralta hill, as well as a lowland agriculture, relying especially on the vintages of the Lerma River. The fertility of these well irrigated lands, combined with the presence of important obsidian deposits in the surrounding sierras, favoured the development of a vast city here.
