Coldfoot and its ten or so inhabitants are not very attractive, except that it is a stopover for trucks travelling the Dalton Highway from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay for 400 km. For the adventurers who would leave alone on this famous road, think well that Coldfoot Camp will be the only point of provisioning and lodging before Deadhorse, 400 km higher. For the record, Coldfoot was once a mining camp, named Slade Creek. Its current name comes from the prospectors who, around 1900, went up the Koyokuk River and returned to this point of exploration because their feet were cold.
