The small village of Wiseman, 12 km north of Coldfoot, was once the northernmost gold camp in North America. After the discovery of large quantities of gold in 1907, many Coldfoot residents moved here. The population exploded between 1911 and 1915. Then, like everywhere else, the gold mining activity declined and the people left. Today, those who still live here live independently and use traditional methods to support themselves. Located just north of the Arctic Circle, Wiseman is one of the best places to see the Northern Lights, if you are lucky, until April!
