Population approx. 6,700. The village of Gopalpur-On-Sea is a popular seaside resort for locals. The long concrete promenade does little to enhance the beauty of this beach, one of the prettiest in the state. Unfortunately, the sea is often rough and not recommended for swimming. Gopalpur was an important trading port in the days of the ancient kingdom of Kalinga. The village is charming, with old dilapidated houses in the old quarter. It can be a quiet stopover on your journey. The morning fish market is lively and well worth a visit. The nearest railway station is in Berhampur, 16 km away.
