This vast, rolling park was formed during the Ice Age. Some forty superb lakes are scattered among the hills and forests of the reserve: Wigry being the largest of them all, its name was chosen to name the park. It is fed by the Czarna Hańcza River, which flows into it from the west in the form of a torrent, and emerges from it in the east as a wide navigable waterway. It is along this river that you can enjoy magnificent kayak trips. The park's forests are home to a wide variety of species. The flora and fauna are extremely rich. The beaver is the park's symbol.
