The country's 3rd city, the world capital of icebergs (Ilulissat literally means "icebergs") is such a spectacular place that it suffers no comparison! The arrival by plane is one of the most spectacular in all of Greenland, as it is preceded by a flight over Isfjord. The latter is an ice-covered fjord 3 to 6 km wide and 60 km long; it pours 20 billion tonnes of icebergs into the bay each year and the calving of the glaciers can cause waves up to 10 m high. The ideal is generally to choose Ilulissat as a drop-off point and then to radiate into the different areas of the bay of Disko.
