EL MOLÍ PETIT
El Molí Petit, the flour mill of the monastery of Sant Joan de les Abadesses offers a visit with a short video
El Molí Petit (the Little Mill), documented since the 14th century, was the flour mill of the Sant Joan de les Abadesses monastery, and continued to operate, powered solely by canal water, until the 1970s. Left in a state of neglect, the municipality, aware of the mill's heritage value, decided to launch its restoration in 2003. It was the dynamic and passionate Alt Ter association that oversaw the restoration of the building, eventually turning it into an Eco-Museum, a center for the study and interpretation of river ecosystems. Today, you can visit the exhibition, which not only raises public awareness of the fragility of rivers and their biodiversity, but also describes the ancient trade of the miller and its importance in the days of the monks of Sant Joan, with a wealth of anecdotes and legends, and explains how the hydraulic mechanism works. The tour ends with a short video.
