HOTEL LLAFRANCH * * *
Hotel with restaurant, specializing in Empordanet gastronomy, and terrace with a beautiful view of the sea in Palafrugell.
Sofia Loren, Kirk Douglas, Elizabeth Taylor, but also Paco de Lucía, Joan Manuel Serrat or Lola Flores and even our national Johnny: the hotel can boast a long list of prestigious guests who frequented the place from the late 1950s to the 1960s, as the many photos testify. Opened in 1958 by brothers Josep, Mario and Manel Bisbe, known as the "gypsy of the Costa Brava", it even became the regular vacation spot for Antonio Gades and La Chunga, flamenco dancer and muse to Picasso and Dalí. Times have changed, and the clientele will no longer be the same, but the family spirit that presided over its opening remains. Along the passeig de Llafranc, the hotel offers 28 rooms, two-thirds of which have sea views. Half overlook the passeig directly, with a guaranteed postcard view, while the others are larger, with a side view. But rest assured, on the top floor there's a large terrace open to all, where you can enjoy a drink on a deckchair facing the sea. Breakfast is served in a room whose fireplace was decorated by La Chunga, who came to complete her painting in 2015. There's also a restaurant dedicated to Empordanet gastronomy. In other words, you'll always find black rice or suquet.
