Ascent of Pico da Vara, a trail leading up to the Planalto dos Graminhais.
Several paths used to lead to Pico da Vara. Today, there is only one, the others being forbidden for safety reasons. To make the ascent, follow trail PRC07 SMI, starting from Santo António Nordestinho. If the weather is clear, the panorama from the summit is magnificent: you can see practically the whole island. Be sure to fill in the online authorization form on the official Azores hiking website.

Certainement la plus belle rando de l'île. Il faut la faire pas temps dégagé pour pouvoir admirer tout l'île de Sao Miguel. La première partie est assez raide mais le reste du sentier ne posséde aps de réelle difficulté. Prévoir une bonne ration d'eau et des sandwichs!

Avons eu la chance d'escalader le pico da vara par temps dégagé, balade inoubliable et nous avons trouvé les deux stèles rappelant les deux crashs d'avions qui s'y sont produits. Celui d'Air France avec Marcel Cerdan en 1949 et celui de l'aviation portugaise en 1943. Vue exceptionnelle d'en haut.
