On a small hill, some 10 km from the city, the main attraction is the superb Jagannath Mandir temple built in 1691 by the Barkagarh king Jagannathpur. The town is a gateway to Betla National Park, 170 km from the capital of Jharkhand. Ranchi boasts the birthplace of the iconic former captain of the Indian national cricket team: MS Dhoni, who is still active in 2023 in the IPL with the Chennai Super Kings.
