It is the gateway to one of the pilgrimage sites most revered by the jains, 24 marble temples lost in the Parasnath Hill, above the village of Madhuban, some 25 km further. Every good jaïn must perform this pilgrimage several times during his life. Not as impressive as the Site site in Madhya Pradesh (see the chapter devoted to it), this harmonious set of temples spread over hills with lush vegetation is worth a lot less. This is where 20 of the 24 tirthankars, these pious characters regarded as the builders of the jainism reached nirvana. It is said that any jaïn doing this pilgrimage filled with love and the spirit rid of bad thoughts will be freed from the cycle of reincarnation and reach nirvana during one of its 49 future lives. The temples are dedicated to each of the 24 tirthankars. The site bears the name of the 23rd of them particularly revered in the region.
