Located 95 kilometers north of Udaipur, Sardargarh is an 18th-century fort built by Sardar Singh, master of the village of Lawa. The story goes that the Maharana of Udaipur, who came for the inauguration in 1743, was so impressed by the fort's architectural majesty that he called upon Sardar Singh to supervise the work on Udaipur's Jag Niwas. The fort, surrounded by an imposing wall and circular bastions, has now been converted into a luxury hotel and can only be visited on the occasion of a reservation or a meal. The village has many Hindu and Jain temples lining its dusty lanes.
