The village of Conchagua was founded in 1543. The inhabitants, whose ancestors are lencas and Spanish, have preserved their traditions throughout the centuries, such as the danza del Torito Pinto (dance of men wearing painted masks) and danza del Viejo y de la Vieja. The village is known for its production of masks and crafts.In the village of Conchagua, the festival of land celebrates the fruit of peasants'work. During this feast, grandmothers walk through carriages drawn by oxen and decorated with sheets of corn and seasonal fruits. The festivities were held on 25 July in honour of Santiago Apostol and on 20 January in honour of the martyr San Sebastián.
