Welcome to the cannibal land.... If this practice was banned more than a century ago, the last victim of cannibalism would have been in the late 1960s. The Botco site is still there to remind us of this, even if the village has since been moved. Formerly known as Mallicolo during the colonial era, Malekula is the second largest island in the archipelago after Santo (more than 2,000 km2 and 365 km of coastline) and the third largest by the population (nearly 26,000 inhabitants). Today, it is visited mainly for its cultural diversity (Small and Big Nambas) and its exuberant nature, cannibal sites and the Maskelynes, superb southern islands still preserved from all forms of tourism. There are many cottages there but it is necessary to organize with them or with your travel agency the reception and transport. In Lakatoro, many shops exist as well as official services and a bank branch (be careful, no withdrawal of tickets possible).
