This small mining town of 100 inhabitants lies 66 kilometers north of Parachilna. The coal mined nearby provides 40% of the electricity for the entire state of South Australia. Several times a week, an almost 3-kilometer-long train leaves the town to deliver 10,000 tons of coal to the Port Augusta power station. The visitor information center is located in Liz's Open Cut Cafe. In Leigh Creek, you'll find everything you need for refuelling, as well as accommodation at the Leigh Creek Tavern and hearty meals at its bistro.
