Parachilna was once a station for the Ghan on its long journey north. The line of this legendary train now passes through Coober Pedy, but the track, still used by the mining industry, remains. This is the Old Ghan Railway. The same is true of the old station, which at sunset blends into the magnificent landscape. Today, Parachilna is best known for the Prairie Hotel, a little out of the way in the middle of nowhere, which offers several types of accommodation, as well as a very typical bar and restaurant at the gateway to the Outback.
