Frankfurt, much less known than Louisville or Lexington, is the capital of Kentucky. Its population is 25 600. Founded in the 1780 s after the installation of the first British settlers, she received her title in 1792 after State integration in the United States. Originally named Frank's Ford (in memory of a pioneer named Stephen Frank), his name was transformed over time in Frankfurt. During the War of Secession, two fortifications, Fort Boone and New Redoubt, were built by the Union on the heights of the city (Fort Hill), which prevented the confederate from occupying it briefly. The top of the hill, still historic site, is now occupied by a public park (Leslie Morris Park) where the view on Downtown and Kentucky River is particularly beautiful.
