UNIVERSITY MUSEUM AND BOTANICAL GARDEN
University Botanical Garden housing over 10,000 varieties of plants and species in tropical and subtropical greenhouses.
Ghent's beauty lies in the contrast between its narrow streets and wide squares... But, come to think of it, there aren't many green spaces in the center! Here's a rather large one, close to the university and the museums (Municipal and Fine Arts), flanked by magnificent Art Nouveau buildings. Here you'll find over 10,000 varieties of plants and species, including some in tropical and subtropical greenhouses. Why not take a stroll and soak up the greenery... You'll need it after visiting the GUM, the Ghent University Museum, at the entrance to the garden. Spanning several floors, the museum explains the path of scientific reasoning: bringing order to chaos, doubting, imagining... all supported by the collection amassed by the university over more than 200 years. Each station invites you to discover and reflect on a host of subjects, but also to indulge in the sciences: botany, zoology, biology, mathematics, physics, astronomy, medicine..
A temporary exhibition is located on the upper floor, to encourage further reflection.
