This unusual museum is housed in Belgium's oldest asylum, dating back to 1857. It bears the name of Dr. Guislain, the first psychiatric expert to practice in the country in the 19th century. The museum traces the history of psychiatry, with a permanent collection well worth a visit. There is also an international collection of art brut. The Musée du Docteur Guislain also features a number of temporary exhibitions on psychiatric themes.

Difficle d'imaginer qu'il y a peu de temps, ces pratiques étaient encore valables en Europe et surtout que cela se fait encore dans certains pays d'Afrique ou d'Asie, soit disant civilisés!
A visiter en prenant son temps, au moins une demi-journée pour bien profiter de tout et notamment des anciennes salles.
