THE HALLES DE NOLAY
These halls are a reminder of the town's dynamism in medieval times.
What a surprise to discover this imposing and superb building! These halls, which already existed at the end of the XIVth century, are remarkable: immense size, including 420 m² without support on the ground and a magnificent framework. The Burgundian lava roof weighs between 600 and 800 kg perm2! Until the beginning of the 20th century, fairs and markets gathered here producers who came from all over the region, including the Saône plain, Auxois and Morvan. The site is really worth a stop. These market halls are a reminder of the dynamism of the town in medieval times when there were no less than fifteen churches and chapels in the city. They are the place of numerous events throughout the year that make the charming historical heart of Nolay vibrate. Narrow streets where craftsmen have reappropriated stores, the jacquemarts which ring every quarter of an hour... We like to sit down on the church square and share a glass of Hautes Côtes while looking at the market place! Finally, Nolay is located in a green setting, sporty friends, families, you can take the "voie des vignes" which links Santenay, Beaune and Dijon. This greenway follows the route of the old railroad and passes by two viaducts providing exceptional views on the village and the valley of the Cozanne. You can see the Cormot rocks which invite you to climb. At 3 km, the Cirque du Bout du Monde, yes, the Bout du Monde is Burgundian, an intact nature. Many paths between vineyards, forests and hills reveal a preserved nature.
