The Big Thicket Preserve is a nature reserve with special conditions that allow it to shelter unique animal and plant species. UNESCO did not make a mistake when it declared it an international biosphere reserve in 1981. It is home to 4 of the 5 carnivorous plants in the United States. So be careful! Snakes, salamanders, woodpeckers, eagles, rare fish such as the black buffalo or the paddlefish inhabit its territory. On the flora side, you can observe, among others, different species of pine, a savanna and cypresses.
