Some 50 km inland from Lakefield National Park is the turnoff to Split Rock, where the most important rock paintings have been discovered in recent decades by archaeologist Percy Trezise. At Quinkan, the four main sites include some admirable specimens dating back 15,000 years. Only one of these sites is open to the public, and an entry permit must be obtained from the ranger at Laura. Laura has only one campground and one motel, the Laura Motel.
