Located 15 minutes west of Lake Charles, the town of Sulphur is a suburb of Lake Charles. Its name comes from the sulphur mines that were exploited in the area during the last century. Outdoor and nature lovers know this town mainly because of the Creole Nature Trail Adventure Point, an information center and starting point of the Creole Nature Trail All-American Road, which stretches for almost 300 km in the southwestern part of the Cajun country. The trail is designated as one of the country's official scenic byways and is filled with marshes, wildlife, beaches and Cajun culture. A must do!
