From Aréni, as you approach Eghegnadzor, nature becomes more generous. The road along the course of the Arpa river is lined with villages surrounded by small vineyards that brighten up the rocky mountain slopes, exuding a gentle way of life typical of wine-growing regions. The traditional rural houses can still be seen here, whose roof structure is made of interlaced wooden slats in the shape of a dome, in a composition known as hazarachen, from which some Armenian religious buildings were inspired. The town of Eghegnadzor, the capital of Vayots Dzor, is not, it must be said, of particular interest, but it does offer some accommodation capacities that are very useful for exploring a region rich in monuments. It is a large agricultural village, crushed by the sun in summer.
