Located 10 km north of San Cristóbal, Zinacantán is a village of the Tzotzil community, dedicated to growing flowers in its impressive greenhouses. You'll notice that the locals, especially the women, wear tunics and shawls embroidered with flowers, often dominated by the color violet. Although there is no craft market, the families warmly welcome you into their homes to show you their workshops and productions. The Zinacantán people's love of flowers is also reflected in their religious ceremonies. Visiting the village during Holy Week or the celebration of San Lorenzo (three days of festivities around August 9) is a unique opportunity to discover the magnificent decorations of the church of San Lorenzo, as well as the chapels of Esquipulas and San Sebastián.
