Just km east of Timișoara, Lugoj is a rather pleasant crossroads town in the county. The small town center, on the banks of the Timiș River, features some beautiful streets lined with colorful, more or less well-maintained houses dating back to the Habsburgs. In Piața Victoriei stands the Orthodox Church of the Assumption, completed in 1766, one of the prettiest Baroque buildings in Banat. The lively Museum of History and Ethnography (9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays) displays a number of Dacian and Dacian-Roman remains.
