Twenty kilometers from Uyuni, on the road to Potosi, Pulacayo is a mining center founded in 1833 around the site of Huanchaca, the second largest silver mine in the world, still in operation today. In this small village with a Wild West atmosphere, several locomotives of the time are exposed, including one attacked... by Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid! You can also have a look at the ruins of the old house of Aniceto Arce Ruiz, 22nd president of Bolivia. You can also visit the metallurgical factory, still in operation, which contains machinery from over a century ago. The atmosphere of a ghost town contributes to make this site bewitching.
