The largest salt desert on the planet can be visited in a few hours or a day. Take the time to go through a travel agency for security reasons, and don't hesitate to book if you are following a tighter itinerary. Most of the major Bolivian agencies can pick you up from one of the country's main cities. The Salar can be visited all year round. During the rainy season, in February and March, the Salar is covered with a film of water, and becomes a gigantic mirror. Otherwise, it looks like a deserted and inhospitable planet. Spectacular pictures guaranteed!
